After a spirited 60 minute battle the Blazers eventually fell to an 8-6 defeat by the Cleveland Comets, although it was hard for anyone to draw anything but joy and inspiration from the game. The game was organised by the Cleveland Comets team to help raise funds for the Butterwick Hospice care home who recently cared for Fiona Flett, the mother of Blazers brothers David and Daniel Flett, who recently passed away after losing her battle with cancer. Both Flett brothers were popular figures growing up in the Billingham youth system which Fiona was a part of, so when the Comets saw an opportunity to organise this game, they jumped at the chance.

Fund raising on the night along with a dedicated Just Giving page set up for online donations has so far raised over £1800 for the hospice that helped support Fiona and her family, something both Dave and Daniel never imagined possible, but a clear indication of Fiona’s popularity.

Its not too late to Donate, head over to the Just giving page and show your support.
